computer green screen
I have an old computer of which the screen displays a small green light but nothing else. What’s wrong?

I have an old computer that possesses a screen which doesn’t display. When I power it up a small green light comes on. However, it doesn’t show anything else, like when the computer is supposed to be completely on (when it leaves set up mode there is no display on the screen). What is wrong?:

This is caused by a problem with the steering coil, but i may be spouting gibberish.

The cathode ray gun sits at the back of the monitor shooting a jet of electrons at the front. The steering coil causes the jet to bend and ’scan’ the backside of the screen at a really high rate of speed, sort of like a typewriter.

Without it, the jet of electrons would just shoot straight forward and hit the middle of the screen. Same would happen, if the coil were faulty, or had a bad connection to its controlling device, mor the most likely, the controlling device is toast.

Steering coils dont usually walk off on their own, and they usually don’t break, being mostly just a coil of wire around the tube. The latter takes a pro to fix, and its not a good idea to open up monitors anyway, unless you know what your doing. Even when the power is disconnected, there’s high voltage in there.
